Marist College, in Poughkeepsie, NY.

Area A1, A3 and A5 Fall Contest set for Sept.25th!

The Area 1, 3 and 5 contests (Humorous and TableTopics) will be held on Tuesday, September 25th from 6-9PM. Contestants should arrive at 6pm (or slightly sooner) for briefings.

The Contest will be located in the Ulrich Conference Room in the Dyson Center atMarist College. Directions to Marist are at http://www.marist.edu/welcome/direct.html

IMPORTANT NOTE:
Each club can send up to TWO contestants from their club to the area contest for each contest! That means up to 4 people total from each club could participate in the area contest !

Congratulations to David J. Gavin, DTM

District 53 is proud to announce that David J. Gavin has joined the elite group of Distinguished Toastmasters or DTM's.

David recently completed all requirements for his Advanced Leader (ALS) award and received his DTM recognition on June 30, 2007. David Gavin served District 53 and Division A as Area A5 Governor this past year ('06-'07) and he was a Club Mentor for The Bureaucrats Club of Poughkeepsie, NY that chartered on 5/11/2005.

He is an active member of Arlington Rotary Toast Club #5614, an open community Club that meets in Area A5 at Marist College in Poughkeepsie, NY.

The Distinguished Toastmasters award or DTM is the highest level in the Toastmasters educational program and David's progress in the Communications and Leadership areas of the program has been exemplary.

Congratulations to David for a great accomplishment and I look forward to hearing about his progress toward his next CC or CL !

We had a fun-filled evening last night hosted by Marist College Toastmasters in Poughkeepsie, NY. Here are the results...

Area A1 Results:

Trophy for 1st Runner-up was not awarded (no other contestants)

Area A5 did not have any contestants in the International or Tall Tales contests. Two trophies and one winner's medal for Area A5 went home lonely!

We look forward to having the winners (or their runner-ups, if they can't make it) at the Division A Contest on Wed. April 11th at the Wooster School (hosted by WestConn Toastmasters). Times and directions are available on the District 53 website (click here).

Area A3 Contests... set for April 4th

Since I have not gotten any responses the email I sent out last week, I made an "executive decision" and scheduled the Area A3 contest in conjunction with the Area A1 / A5 Contest on April 4th. (I have already discussed the subject with Area A1 & A5).

We want to make sure we give all the clubs in Area A3 the opportunity to participate in the Spring contests ! They should also be aware that each area will have their own trophies so while the contests are being run together, the competitions will only be within each Area!
